Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens is an American artist and rapper, best than her stage name, Queen Latifah. In music, film and on television, Queen Latifah is the recipient of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award as well as six more Grammy nods and nominations for her Emmy Award. Queen Latifah was born and raised in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita teacher who taught in Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Sr. an officer in the police force. The couple divorced when Latifah was age of 10. Latifah went to Catholic school in Newark the state of New Jersey. She was also raised in the Baptist Church. Her stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very gentle in Arabic was handed by her cousin at the age of she was just eight years old. Latifah's 5'10" height allowed her to be a formidable performer during high school. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show at her highschool. Latifah started to beatbox with the Ladies Fresh. Latifah is among the founding members of the Flavor Unit, which was in the beginning a group composed of MCs led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King made an audition recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. The recording was given to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was a member of Latifah in the early days and was awed by the song. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as the first single by Latifah.
